how often do you guys grease the engine coupler?
Was looking for info on the engine coupler and how often it needs to be greased. Some say every 50 hours and some others say that they just grease the splined driveshaft up real good whenever they pull the drive unit off. Mine has two grease zirks, as I was able to see when I was replacing the gimbal bearing a few weeks back. How do you even reach the grease zirks from inside the boat? I dont think I could reach back there far enough to get to them. The wife is pretty small, so maybe she could, lol. Is this something that needs to be done regularly or does greasing up the driveshaft before installing it do the same thing?

I just grease the splines each time I remove the outdrive, every few years. Never had a problem.

Grease mine every year with winterization.
Just a couple of shots Run probably only 50 hrs max a year these days. :( A ounce of prevention.............. |

I had read to do it every 50 hrs, maybe I better talk the wife into getting back in there once a year. I certainly can't fit back there. Talari is a big boat, but it's really cramped up tight with a 7.4 back there

Might think about a extension paul. :wink_thumbup:
Bet ya could rig something up if need be. 1/8" NFPT if I remember right. |

Where is this fitting? Because the only ones I have greased are the ones on the outside of the hull on the outdrive...

Grease fittings are located on the rearward face of the engine coupler and are 90 degree fittings which point port and starboard. Attached is a picture I found online of a blown coupler, you can see the two fittings.

Matt, it's between the engine and the gimbal bearing. I could see mine when I had the outdrive pulled off and could see the two grease fittings, too. It looked just like the pic that Steve posted
