overtons tuff coat non skid
 

has anyone ever used the overtons tuff coat on there deck?? or anything like it. since having my floor redone, the floor was left as a bluish grey primer. Ive mulled over putting carpet back down and the more i think about it, the less i like it. seeing how nasty the floor gets from climbing in and out of the boat then having carpet hold that like a sponge??? gross. anyways, if you have used it, what is your opinion on it? i would only need a gallon, wont be a big job, but don't want to put something down that is no good.

Nope ,
Rubber back carpet in all the recent boats I've owned(last 20yrs). I prefer a 28-30oz nap.
Mine and mommas' toes-es like it that way:yes_grin:
Got to be a good rubber back though , not the stuff you see on most 16-20oz marine carpet.

I am thinking of trying it in my bilge area if I pull the engine again though.:wink_thumbup:

I would say I'm somewhat a clean freak and having carpet down just seems gross. Unfortunately I know what goes into the ohio river and after a fun day of boating nothing is more satisfying then bleaching the floor before she gets tucked in until the next week.

I boat in some of the clearest , cleanest waters in the nation(in my humble opinion). I have never thought of my boat in nasty water , much less nasty water in my boat.:yikes:
As long as you prep the floor properly , I would think it would work great!
Be super easy to wash down for sure.

I have seen boats with bedliner type coatings on the floor and did not like them.it just doesn't look classy or "factory" enough to me. Originally I thought it was a good idea but its still not the same as having a factory fiberglass knurled floor. I have the factory fiberglass floor and Lake Lanier has some silt in the water. The only way to get it completely clean is with a scrub brush and a towel. It is a pain in the butt. I am a clean freak too and the speckles of dinge in the knurling drive me crazy. Sometimes I wish I had the rubber back carpet. It would feel a lot better on the feet. Sometimes I think I'd rather vacuum than scrub. But then again... I do like the fact that my floor won't rot and carpet would not even be an option if I did not keep my boat indoors... Just my .02...

I boated on the Ohio for the last 18 years of my life, and I know exactly what you mean. However, that being said, every single boat I've had & been on has had carpet. None of it has ever been "gross" except for those 1970's houseboats with the shag carpet. A good quality marine grade carpet won't retain moisture long term, and will last for a long time. It's meant to get wet, be cleaned, and dry quickly. I'd seriously urge you to consider carpet rather than something like a homemade non-skid floor. You don't want your nice Mariah to have an interior that looks like a work boat...

My suggestion is to get custom fit lay-in carpets that could be removed if you feel the need to clean or hose down. Corinthian Marine Carpet makes theirs with AquaMat, a rubberized backing that's guaranteed to lay flat up to 70mph. I had custom carpet made for my Z250, and am most likely going to be putting it in my Z280 as well. It's good stuff, looks great, feels great, and lasts a long time if you take care of it. When I sold the Z250 last year, the carpet was 5 years old and still looked brand new. If you're near Cincy, I'll be happy to recommend a guy that does amazing canvas and carpet work.

Nothing like the feel of carpet beneath bare feet. :D
A mate has a similar type of tuff deck coating in his boat and I have to wear deck shoes or Wet shoes (the type made of wetsuit material) on his boat or my feet end up raw!

you may be onto something. something removable on the floor mat be the way to go.something i can pull and hose down. yes i live about 10 mins from downtown cincy who can you recommend for carpet work? you think he would do hull headliners too?
