Default Suggestions on ski locker repair

If you step on the ski locker the lid starts to fold in. I am super worried someone is going to put their foot through it. It looks like the rim/ edge around the inside has been bent in and allows the door to fold in....any suggestions on how to reinforce this?

Remove frame/hatch , peel carpet back from edge a little , use a piece of King Starboard 3/4"x2"x length of opening minus radius corners , mount on bottom edge of opening with approximately 3/4" sticking past the edge of the opening with stainless steel hardware , glue carpet back down , mount frame/hatch assembly back in opening.

The king starboard is tuff stuff.

There is a vendor on eBay that sales scrap king board an he can even cut it to fit. Very reasonable price.
