Either that or order the 170 dollars worth of parts save some labor costs and complete tune up yourself. Change the waterpump, then have somebody change your impeller if its been a while.

I did the tune up in the water in about an hour and a half.

I stopped by the parts store last night and picked up the water circulator and sealant. Hopefull I will get it on in the next day or two and knock one thing off my list.

Ok guys...I have the pump off and have cleanded the surface of the old gaskets. Do i need any sealant on the gaskets? I have read that you dont but guys do put blue locktite on the bolts. Unfortunetly I can not find the service manual for my motor so I am without the oem specs.

    Thanks

Your manual is the 4th one down on the third page of the "Mercury MerCruiser Manuals" section kem
I personally try to avoid and sealants on surfaces unless I have a issue keeping the gasket in place.
You need to use a thread sealer , not loctite on the pump threads.
Take your time and it will go fine.

Thanks for the manuals section. I had tried to locate them before but without luck.

I have installed the new pump and also purchased a new belt. I will fire up the boat tomorrow and check my handy work and see how it runs and check for leaks.

Thanks all for the advice! I still have to figure out the loss of power issue but atleast I don't have to worry about it over heating.

I also purchased a new water seperator filter and gas treatment for ethonal. The more I think about how the boat was running prior and sytems I have had before with bad gas......I am going to start there and work towards tuning it up. I know it needs it but I have been shelling out a lot of money already and will be on vacation for almost the entire month of Aug. so I can't be throwing money at the boat.

I will keep posting my findings till things are running smooth.

Okay here is an update. I got the water circulating pump on sat. and got it all buttoned up with the new belt and water seperator filter. I also put some ethonal treatment in the gas tank to possibly help with the way it has been running rough.

Sunday I got the boat out in the driveway and hooked it up to the muffs and no leaks and it seems the more I run it the better it runs since I put the ethonal treatment in.

A couple of observations that I would like to hear input on is....

The water exhausted from the engine on the left side of the engine (if standing at the back of the boat looking at the outdrive) is warmer then the water coming from the right side.

I also happen to peek down into the carb when it was running and it appeared to have water droplets on the butterflies. This seems to be my issue then with water in the tank and the poor idling and loss of power?

on top of your thermostat housing where the hoses come out and go to the manifolds there are a couple of check balls in thereone of those maybe sticky slowing down the water flow
