Temp issue

I have a 2001 180 diablo with the 4.3 volvo. The temp gauge doesnt move while im driving. If I shut it off for a few minutes then start it back up it will go up some but then go back down. Is this normal. Do these engines have a thermosat? Or does the water just keep getting pumped through?

They have a thermostat. Sounds like its sticking open.

What temp is the gauge at? Most thermostats are 160-170 deg.
