Technology has come full circle for my stereo!
I don’t know how many of us are left that have the original radio in our boats, but I’m one of them.
You know, the stereo with the cassette player that doesn’t even have auto reverse. Years ago, I considered changing out the stereo, so I could play my CD’s. I did add extra speakers, but I was concerned about the work involved of fitting a new style stereo (without knobs) in the current location. I know many of you have done a great job, but many found it to be a frustrating project. Lately, I ‘ve been considering leaving the original in place and mounting a unit with blue tooth capability and remote control somewhere else in the boat so I can play the music on my Android phone. Yesterday I had an epiphany: I have a cassette deck!!! My daughters has one of those $8 adapters that has a cassette on the end. She plugs one end into her speaker jack on her phone and the inserts the cassette in to the cassette player in her car and it sounds great. We took her contraption and hooked it up in the boat. I got on Pandora and put in “80’s Throwback (90’s Comeback)” radio and we listened to great music that could all agree to all day. I know that this setup isn’t up to the standards of a true audiophile. There is no subwoofer in my boat and no battery draining amplifiers, but I can live with this setup. Amazing how technology can go full circle. :) |
Re: Technology has come full circle for my stereo!
I had the original cassette deck in my boat. just changed it over to a Kenwood cd player.
this has a jack socket in the front that I can plug my phone into for music, but most handy is I can plug the VHF radio into in as well. it's handy still being able to hear the VHF over all the other boat noise when in heavy traffic. And if you've seen my posts you'll know what I meen by heavy traffic :D http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...630_144252.jpg |

We've got river barges, Andy, but you are definitely in a different league!
