power engine cover

I am having trouble with the power engine cover on my recently purchased 94 240z Talari. It starts to raise about 1/2" and then stops. It acts like it is caught or hung up on something. I don't see a fastener to undo. I can undo the rods and manually raise it, however it is heavy to support properly. Any suggestions?

First check all your connections. Bad wiring is the cause of a whole lot of these kind of problems.
Make sure grounds are good , relays are good , and switches are working properly , and you have a full 12v going to the unit.
That being said.......sounds like either the worm gear in the lift actuator housing is broke or damaged or the motor that runs it is weakened from age.
You could replace with gas actuated struts. I think I saw someone used 120lb units somewhere here. I'll try and find the thread.
Otherwise a new unit can get very spendy , very fast. Like 250-500 dollars or more.
If you do a search on them you'll find a lot of info. :)

Colorado is right...very expensive very fast. If you are not getting 12v at the motor, then you can try lift accelerators. Here is a link to one..

All they do is increase the voltage to 12v so your lifts will work better. I actually took mine completely apart and polished and cleaned the coils and magnets inside and that helped mine work a little better. Plus I changed out the grease around the worm gear. They still take forever to open, but it is cheaper than replacement!

I just fixed my lifts. they would go up but not down. the rocker switch was the problem.
the switch was very easy to clean, it just clips apart and then I cleaned the contacts with a pencil eraser. works great now!!
maybe check the rocker switch.
