Brand for power steering cable
What brand do I look for when replacing my power steering cable. A rack and pinion steering cable?Just replaced my power steering pump for hard steering which didn't help.Going to try the cable. 1999 214 Jubille 5.0 Eng. Does anyone know what size I would need.

Re: Brand for power steering cable
It is probably a rack system. Although rotary boxes are used too. Just have to look under the dash Douglas:)
Also where you have a Alpha or Bravo Drive matters I believe. Which in your case is a Alpha right? If you look along the length of the cable it will be stamped as to the size. They are usually measured in inches for boats under 25 ft. So just as a example- if it was a 12ft cable it would be 144 inches. |
Re: Brand for power steering cable
Took the clevis pin out from the steering cable back of engine. The steering from the steering wheel was still hard to move.Have to replace the cable. Turned off the big nut and pulled the shaft thru.Tied a strong string to end of cable longer then boat.Took off 4 bolts holding rack on behind steering wheel.Had yo take off throttle control lever to expose cables. Found out steering cable was held inplace with plastic ties wraped around electrical wires. So had to cut them before pulling steering cable all the way out. My 214 Mariah 1999 Jubille 5.0 Ahpha cable from Teleflex is SSC13414 I had replaced the power steering first and that was not my problem.
