1996 200 Shabah

Guys, just recently purchased the boat. Going through now replacing the hoses, belts etc... and have an issue w/ the tilt trim switch. The switch on the throttle will raise and lower the unit (what you would do while you are in the water) but won't raise it to the trailering position. I have looked for an overide switch but can't find one. It is a Mercruiser Alpha One outdrive. Would there be a manual overide swith in the back of the boat next to the hydraulic pump? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Should be a button on the throttle lever that says trailer. That's what my 98 has. I also have a remote button to raise and lower on the side above the swim platform.

Yep, sounds like its doing exactly what its supposed to do. Trim/tilt switch at the top of the throttle, trailer switch at the bottom right corner of the throttle control assembly.

In case the button does not do the trick which happened to me the first time I took mine out.... The fluid was low in the res. Or maybe you have leaky trim cylinder seals. Approx $50 to do both cylinders if you do the work and buy online. All relatively easy fixes.

If needed, we do have a few troubleshooting guidelines here in our General Maintenance section.

To raise the outdrive to the "Trailer" position, you have to press the trailor button on the lower right side of the faceplate as Mikeyt describes above.

You fine gentlemen appear to be VERY knowledgeable when it comes to all these things. Here is my next question. on the 5.7 liter carbureted Merc (2 barrel mercarb), what is the proper procedure for cold starting? Someone told me to put the boat in neutral, pump the throttle forward and backward twice, then leave the throttle at a high idle position and start? Took it out yesterday for the first run since purchase and had hell getting it started. Once I did get it going, it ran great. (Actually hit what the speedometer calls 55 mph with a full tank of gas and 2 guys in the boat). Ran the boat for 2 hours w/ no issues. All fuel lines, fuel pump, filters and carb have been replaced + all fuel drained from the tank and filled back up w/ premium. Just wondering if I flooded it out? It's the 5.7 litre w/ the "Thunderbolt V Ignition".

I have to pump mine at least 4 times. I leave it about a quarter to a third to start it. Works every time.

Not sure what causes it, but I also have to "Pump" it up like Dozer said when I first go out after a long break (week or so). After I start it once, it does fine the rest of the trip.

When you pump it, the accelerator pump in the carb give the motor a good blast of fuel.
This is enough to make the motor fire, even if it's just pre ignition.
Then the gas exhausting after the bang is strong enough to start the draw of air and fuel for the motor to run.
giving it 1/3 throttle again aids vapour flow by opening the butterfly.
Cranking when cold isn't always enough of a vapour draw to start the engine!
once it's running back the throttle off and let the choke warm the motor.

or it could be something else

Andy, sounds resonable as it seems I have read somewhere about the accelorator pump possibly needing replaced in the carb.

Guys, any of you have your sundeck or whatever you call the cushioned pad above the engine recovered? Need to get mine done and want to make sure I'm not getting hosed on the price. Just curious about what the cost would be.
