What model is my 1996 Shabah 180?
 

I just bought a 1996 Shabah 180 but I can't tell what model it is. From the book it seems that there are several options (MX, Z, Z limited, diablo). I am registering the boat and I want to make sure I get the model right. The HIN is MAB*******96. What is the best way to tell what model it is, if the HIN doesn't work?

I'm not sure what "book" you are referring to but, if it is a 1996 then it only came in three flavours (base, Z, Ltd). The MX name disappeared 2 years prior. Look at the options you have on the boat: If you have options such as windshield defroster, a power seat, a power hatch, trip odometer, dimmer switch then you likely have a Z version. The difference between the Z & Ltd are: Z paint options were a solid hull colour (Ivory or Pearl) with an interior accent colour while LTD had a solid hull/deck colour with a buckskin colour interior and Ltd graphics.

According to the factory build sheets, your boat is a standard 180 Shabah.
The Z series didn't exist for the 180 model.
The Diablo designation was available in 1991-1993, and 2001-2002.

An LE but not a Z version in '96 cuz I'm sure i've seen a couple of LE's for sale. I wasn't aware of that... :huh:

Just as a little more clarification for the OP.... the MX, Shabah & Diablo are model names. The base / Z / LE (Ltd) are trim & option differences.

Hey Mikey, just curious.. Can you have a Z model and a limited? Somewhere I have the original bill of sale from the dealer and the boat was listed as a Shabah Z275 ST limited. I know it was a Z, but I always assumed the "Limited" was a typo...

Yep, a LE/Ltd is just a Z model with a different paint & interior colour option so in effect an LE/Ltd 'just' a higher end Z.

Yep, it's entirely possible to have a Z Limited Edition. According to Jimmy Fulks himself, the Z Limited Edition package included solid gelcoat colors, special buckskin prefixx vinyl interiors, and special limited edition graphics packages. He said the limited edition upcharges could add $2000-$3000 additional charges to the customer when originally ordering.
