1999 4.3 Shabah 4V conversion
Do I have to pull the motor to get the distributor out?
|
Re: 1999 4.3 Shabah 4V conversion
What Shabah do you have?
I would think you would be fine not pulling it. Just make sure you install dizzy before putting on your 4bbl carb. I have plenty of room in my 18' Diablo. Hopefully one of the guys with a late 90's Shabah will chime in. |

1999 Z182, it's in storage right now.

Re: 1999 4.3 Shabah 4V conversion
what is this 4V conversion???
|
4v usually means 4 barrel carb. 2v is 2 barrel carb. Im assuming he's changing his to a 4 barrel and is pulling the distributor so he can change intakes.

I'll measure the length of my 4.3 distributor tomorrow , and give you the measurement from the hold down to the bottom of the distributor. Then all you got to do is measure from the top of your distributor up to the nearest obstruction and see if you have clearance. :)
My distributor is already out due to my rebuild project. |
Re: 1999 4.3 Shabah 4V conversion
OK ,
From the bottom of the mounting ring flange on the distributor to the end of the gear drive(bottom of distributor) is 7 3/4". If you take off the distributor cap you can gain another 1 3/4". You can probably pickup another 1/2"-1" if you take off the rotor assembly. So, If you got 6"-8" clearance above your distributor now , your good to go. :) Hope that helps you out. P.S.: With that conversion to the 4bbl you will pick up 15+ ponies if you'll dial it in good :) Definately noticable in the "seat of the pants" for that size boat. :) |
If you can pull the distributor up just a couple inches you can still pull it with the manifold. Pop the manifold up and slide it forward.

That sounds great for removing it.
How you going to install it again? Gaskets , silicone , intake , distributor. Sounds like a recipe for a intake leak to me.:shakehead: |
Put the intake gaskets on, silicone both ends(throw the end gaskets away), hold intake with one hand in plenum, other hand holding distributor and rear of manifold. You only need to hold the manifold up off the engine half an inch to keep from messing up the silicone. Easy squeezy.

OK
But I know there ain't no way I'm gonna squeeze my ol butt in there and do it that way. :rolling_laugh: EMS would have to extracate my ass!! LOL |
My problem isn't that, its knowing when to quit. I'd be thinking.....hmm...I'm only a few more bolts away from pulling the cam and really making this worth the effort lol.
When I was in my early 20's I had a car the engine was wore out in. My simple rebuild turned into a 6-71 blower sticking out of the hood. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2 |

Hmmm! i like a nice blower....
a close mate of mine built this to go in his 25' revenger, (it's a british boat) he's now sold the boat and it's just sat in his workshop, do you think it would go in the Diablo???:rolling_laugh: might have to lose the sun pad... |
