Default Fuel Guage problems??

My guage reads empty all the time. I pulled the sending unit out and turned the key on and moved the float up and down and the guage reads as it should. The movement is easy, nothing is bent or getting in the way once the sending unit is back in place. I just put it back together and didnt mess with it any more. Here is a dumb question. Is it possible that the cork float will no longer float??? Its the only thing that seems to make sense. I am going to pull it back apart, pull the float and replace it to see but I just cant understand what would change the cork so that it would no longer float Anyone ever see anything like this??

    You bet its possible!!
If you have a suspicion that it is sinking , take it out and put it in a bowl of fuel and see if it sinks. If it doesn't start looking for chaffed wire from sender.
The older carbed cars use to have problems with the fuel float in the carb getting saturated and sinking to the bottom of the fuel bowl.
If that is the issue , may I suggest you change out the whole unit?
It will save you grief in the long run.

Yes that is possible, just the same on a carburetor if the plastic float cracks the vehicle won't run or gas leaks out of the bowl. They can get "liquid Logged" I have never had the problem but I have heard of it happening.
