Luke, 140 hours is not very much time for the age of your boat. As long as the engine and outdrive were serviced regularly, everything should be just fine.

As I said earlier, the best thing you could do is to take your Shabah to a Mercruiser Service Shop and have them inspect the entire motor/outdrive and give you a report on its condition and if it needs any work, this goes for the missing impeller parts as well. I say this not because of the hours, but because of the age.

Our 96 Talari had about 400 hours on it when we bought it. Had it checked out by a Mercruiser Service Center and they said the motor was fine but the outdrive needed work due to a leak in the drive shaft bellow.

Thanks for not using the other language... We like to keep things civil here.

You know, you’re the first one to ask about my name...the truth is really kind of funny!

When I was joining this site, my daughter sneaked up behind me and stuck a "wet" finger in my ear... Well, you can imagine my reaction... and I demanded to know why she did what she did. Turns out, she just wanted to play a prank on the old man and she explained that it was called a "WetWilly". So the name kind of stuck and it seem appropriate for my online ID here. So know you know the whole story!

I had my winterization done this year. This is the first winter I have had the boat so the mechanic checked the impeller and found peices of the last impeller still stuck in the housing, which had damaged the new impellar that was installed before I owned the boat. When I bought the boat I thought that I had a water hose leaking at the water pump. I leaked about a gallon of water an hour into the bildge. So I left it, no big deal. During my winterization my mechanic let me know that the leak that I thought was the hose was actaully the water pump. The previous owner or mechanic just pulled out what peices he could feel and shoved a new impeller into the existing housing. Poor desision it took out the water pump. When you buy a new impeller it comes with a new housing. Change both. I asked about peices in the engine and he said if the peices can get past the pump and thermastat, there not big enoughto do any damage as the water is on the cooling side of the engine not the combustion side.
