1991 MX20 Stern Heavy????

Hello Everyone, I work in the marin business and my boss is letting me use a 1991 Mariah MX20 that was left abandoned at our marina for the last 3yrs.....The boat is 100% stock, and for some reason this boat seems stern heavy???? Is that a normal thing for this hull design? It has a 5liter 205hp with Alpha one drive and I found a used Mirage 19p prop, which doesnt seem low enough, I think she needs a 17 or possibly 15 to run up to 4800, im at 4200 now, anyways she sits more Nose High than others I see around, and we have every brand at our Slips,.......Is this a normal thing for this model? It seems the Mx was a short lived model, Im impressed with the Fiberglass gunnel trim for the 4 speakers, hell my new boats dont have finish like that on the inside, I also like the Sneaky port bow storage area, just a well built boat with the Thickest Vinyl Ive ever felt, and Mariahs info on that was right on, this boat was black inside from the dirt and rain from 3yrs, a Lil Spray 9 cleaner and a scrub brush and shes white again.....I need this to work better because its somewhat Flighty over wakes and it freaks my Fiance out, it reminds me of my 1978 Hydrostream, Nose Up......Brannon

Re: 1991 MX20 Stern Heavy????

I believe the MX20 was only around for '91-'92 and then it became a redesigned MX20 Talari in '93/ A 19" pitch prop should be sufficient to get that boat out of the hole and get your WOT rpms up into the 4600-4800 range. Maybe there was a good reason that boat was left abandoned at the marina? It maybe that the engine is simply tired, the fibreglass may be a bit waterlogged or possibly the trim motor isn't trimming the outdrive properly. Dropping your prop pitch wont affect where the nose runs at speed but it might help bring it down faster. You might also consider installing a pair of Smart Tabs to help it plane faster & stay on plane longer. The tabs also provides a bit of stability to the boat at speed.

These are just a few ideas but i'm sure there will be a number of other thoughts posted.

The hot rod 5 liter is actually perfect even starts with no choke! However maybe she is wet on the stern, we will get the moisture meter Out and check, so this hull became which model? Thanks again .....brannon
