Power Struggle Under Load

I have a 1994 210 talari. Wondering if anyone would have some advice for me. When taking off from a stop going up on plane the motor struggles for power. The throttle is wide open but only reaches about 2800rpm. Once up a plane power seems to be fine.

Probably a silly question but is your stern drive trimmed (verified) all the way down?

yes, trim is all the way down.

The more weight in the boat the worse it gets. With six people in the boat it won't even get up on plane

What engine do you have and what size prop is on the outdrive? When was the last time you had the compression checked on the motor & what were the results? When was the last time the engine had a full tune-up (not just changing the plugs) including a timing check?

It is a 5.7L Merc with a 19P prop. I have had the boat for three years and have changed fuel/water separator, distributor cap and rotor button, had timing checked and it is 4deg BTDC. Have not chnaged plug wires, ignition coil, or fuel pump. Thought that maybe the carb may need a tune-up

I agree with the carb as the focus point. I had a similar issue and it ended up a fuel line problem. You could have some debris restricting full fuel flow. I would have a pro look at that and see if everything is right on the fuel delivery.
