Odd Tach Problem

I have been experiencing an odd tach problem in my Talari. When idling and the idle RPM'S confirmed at 750, the tach shows 1200 rpms and continues to read about 500rpms oo high thru acceleration. I have checked the wiring to the tach and all the way back. I was hoping someone could send me in the right direction other than replacing the tach itself since I'd like to run the OEM so it matches all the other guages. Any help?

I am not sure what kind of tach you have. But I was having a problem with mine and I sent it back to faria guages. They sent me a brand new guage exactly like the old one. they have a lifetime warranty and even if the guage is faulty due to your neglegence they will fix or replace it for 30 dollars which is a good deal. :) Also some of the guys here had a problem with there tach as well and said to turn the dial on the back of the tach with a small screwdriver a couple of times and then back to the original position because the contacts inside can get a little corroded try that first and let us know if that works.:wink_thumbup:

The tach is universal, for 4-6 & 8 cylinder engines. And there is a small turn dial on the back. If you take a small screwdriver and cycle through all the different settings a few times, then return it to the original setting, it'll clean the contacts, and chances are, your problem should be gone! It's usually a simple corrosion problem. It's a really common thing with Mariahs. But I can tell you, the turn dial trick worked for me!

Thanks!

Sorry for the delayed response, but ya'll were right. I simply moved the cyclinder selector screw on the back of the boat back and forth a couple of times leaving it on 6 for my 4.3L and no more probs. Thanks all!
