Default Considering Painting my trailer

As the title states, I'm considering painting my trailer. It is in very good shape, a few rust spots, but nothing major. The problem for me is it does not match the color scheme of the boat, I know lame right? For some reason the boat and trailer do not match, it was one of the last off the assembly line before Mariah closed, so that's probably the reason.

So the task, should I choose to accept it, would be to either paint it myself ( I have the means, however, I'm not a auto body specialist) or have it done. Has anyone with a little know-how tackled something like this? Should I have it done? What would I expect to pay? It's a tandem axle trailer holding a 20ft. boat. What say you?

Depends on how much work or money you want to throw at it. I've seen some nicely painted trailers using good old Krylon which will hold up well if you prepare the surfaces properly. I've also seen professionally painted trailers which look great but cost a bunch. If you aren't sure, drag the trailer to a paint shop or two and get a quote. I'd lean toward painting it myself, or finding a friend with a compressor and paint gun. Good luck!

This is my dilema also. I have a matching trailer but my drawback is the decals. How on earth do you save those because I know it is impossible to purchase the originals. My trailer is white with a few rust spots ans a little road rash so krylon would be an option but the decals!!!!

I painted mine last year as it had some surface rust on it. I decided to use good ole rustoleum and sprayed it with my gun. As for the decals, I have a vinyl cutter so I designed duplicates and made my own decals to bring it back. Take it to a sign shop and have them duplicate the graphics. It'll cost ya though. Or just some basic pinstriping could go a long way as well.

The matching decals are an issue for me as well as I want to keep everything original. My problem is I live in Wyoming so reputable design/decal shops are a little hard to come by. As well, the graphics on my trailer don't match what is on the boat so I'm screwed either way. I still would like to keep the "made for Mariah boats" or whatever it says as well as the Prestige name. The closer I get to tackling the project I'll do a little research and see what I can drum up around here as well as on the web.

Drop me a line when you get ready to do your trailer decal replacements... I just may happen to know someone who does vinyl for a side job and cuts great deals for MOC members.

I also know someone here in SC that does vinyl on the side. He can even design them from a picture if you email him one. Did my splash down the side of mine from a pic.
