One of my many projects is to replace the batteries in my Z275. The original owner had removed the house battery and replaced the starting bank with 2 small flooded batteries. This works fine for right now but won't hold up. I want to replace the 2 starting batteries and install one deep cycle house. For the house side, I am running 2 small fans in the cabin, the small onboard frig, and the stereo(includes 4 regular speakers and 2 10" subs with a 1,700 watt amp.) Sometimes the kids might turn the TV on too. I can't afford a $700-$800 for a Group D battery so I am looking for suggestions that are cheap! Lol...also I am thinking to go AGM but not sure if I can afford them. Any help would be appreciated!

I've been using Optima Blue Top Marine AGM's for the last 9-10 yrs in the boats that I have had , and the 5th wheel RV setup I have.
The one's in the boat that I sold 2 yrs ago are still going strong , and they were 3 yrs old when I sold it.
They have served me well in all occasions. They aren't cheap , but they aren't outta the park either. Last one I got for a buddy's boat was right at 200.00.
I agree on the flooded batteries. They are not up to the task.

Nothing wrong with flooded batteries, they just require proper maintenance (watering) and the correct charge profile. I use a flooded Interstate SRM-4D on my Z280 as a house battery. It runs everything you mentioned and then some and cost less then $200 delivered.

I have never had a flooded battery last half as long as a AGM. And yes they were maintained properly. Interstate is one of the best I agree though. That is all I use in my vehicles.

Flooded batteries are fine, but like Steve said they must be maintained and charged properly. In my experience AGM's do last longer. I use AGM mainly because they wont spill and the posts and clamps stay clean. Regardless of which you choose make sure they are tied down properly in you boat.

Ah heck...step up to a Odyssey dry cell battery. Buy one and it will last beyond your lifetime. You can use and abuse them all day and night. Nothing will discharge and recharge as fast.....NOTHING !!!

Wow! A lot of choices. I really want an AGM but since I need a large deep cycle, I don't think I can afford the AGM. I do like the idea of no maintenance and that they are sealed though...hhhhmmm, maybe if I don't feed the kids for a few days, I could take that money and...heck yes, this will work!
