Default Fried Alternator

Went out for the weekend, and almost immediately noticed that my alternator wasn't charging. Checked a few wires, and it seems the alternator is fried. Luckily my batteries had enough power in it to get us through the weekend.... Anyone have any recommendations of what brand to/not to buy? I draw a lot of power because I run a 5000 watt inverter off of an 8D industrial battery, I also have 2 deep cycle marine batteries for start batteries.

Not a lot of help but, I tried buying an aftermarket brand last year and it wasn't right at all even though it looked right in the pics and everything. I ended up shelling out the $450 for an OEM at a marina.

I agree with Dredd, you never know what you will get. It all depends on the added loads you have in addition to the factory items. Because you added batteries and extra loads you will need to determine if the factory rating will meet the NEW requirements or not and upgrade from there AND, hope you can find one reasonably cheap.

Well, Pulled er out, and come to find out the connector for the primary output was corroded and rotted away.... Gonna take it to get it tested but if it tests good, I'm gonna put it back in. Hopefully this was the whole problem....

Just an update. I bought a replacement from Starters, Alternators and more for Cars, Trucks, Tractors and ATVs I was skeptical because of the $88.00 price tag, but decided to take the risk. It was at my door in 3 days, and bolted/wired up perfectly. Works like a charm!
