Steering cable slop???

Hello all, I'm doing some spring maintenance to the 95 Z202 before we get it on the water. One that that I'm trying to address is my sloppy steering wheel along with heavy steering.

I've been doing a lot of poking around and found if I disconnect the pin that connects the drive lever to the steering ram, the steering is still stiff, but the drive swings freely. If I pull the pin that connects the steering cable to the ram, the steering is free and smooth, but it still has the slop.

The slop that I'm talking about is from about 11-1 o'clock, or about 1/8 of a turn.

I would think that if the cable needed to be replaced that it would be tough to turn while disconnected, but this isn't the case. Is there somewhere to make an adjustment? What at the steering wheel itself, what can I check?

Thanks guys!
Steve

Steering bell crank loose or worn/bushings worn , steering actuator pins worn , worn gimble ring assembly , worn cable assembly maybe.
Just a few things that come to mind guys.
