Hi JK, a couple of things come to mind. Just because something is new, doesn't mean it is right or functioning correctly. I am thinking a restriction inside the pump causing back pressure, or the pump putting out too much pressure. I think there is a pressure relief valve inside the pump to prevent overpressure in the pressure side. Is the return line plenty long enough(not stretched) with a good overlap onto the connections? Is the fluid level correct in the pump(ie not overfilled)? Hope these suggestions help.

we are on the second power steering pump,im going to try a better 1/4 inch hose clamp, not a worm clamp.i do have enough hose nothing is tight,we are using transmission fluid, the manual said it was acceptable.i did blow out the pump cooler it didnt seem plugged,i hate to have replace it ,they want 135.00 for it.

Engine oil? Generally once a year before going into storage for the winter.

The second pump and still with same problem? If that is the case, there are several other components that can be checked to track down the problem. BUT to do it, the system needs to be pressure checked. There are mercruiser tests for pump pressure, control valve operation, etc.. A good shop should have a pressure gage and be able to do the tests or get a good manual if u want to do it yourself. The manuals section on this forum has all of the manuals. The test section power steering is pretty long so I dont have room to write it here. Pressure test the system components first so u wont throw good money after bad.

I do my oil twice a season but I am paranoid lol. I do as Zack said for storage at that time I use regular oil generally unless I find a sale on synthetic. Spring I flush and use synthetic for the summer, same with the leg oil. All other fluids I do about every 3rd spring flush and replace.
