electrical problem

I have a 1999 Mariah 21 foot boat, merc v8 with bravo 3. I do not have an owners manual so a little help is asked for. The alternator stopped working but tests just fine. The electric choke does not energize. I am thinking the 2 are related as part of the starting circuit/trigger to start the alternator and that there is a common point here somewhere??? any suggestions would be appreciated

If you have had the alternator checked out then it sounds like you have a wiring issue on the boat. First check for broken or disconnected wires. Assuming no one has rewired the boat you should still have the std Merc. colors. You should have a fat orange output wire and skinnier black (ground), purple (excitation) and red/purple (voltage sense) wires.

Also, check your grounds. 12Vdc will do some funny stuff when it doesn't have a good ground. Water causes corrosion, and corrosion causes bad connections.
