Talari vs. Shabah

What are the biggest differences between the Shabah and Talari bow riders models in the 20-21 foot range? Thanks!

Re: Talari vs. Shabah

The biggest difference is "the wing". Which is the design and integration of the windshield into the gunwale, (the top half of the hull). It's been discussed a few times before, so I've posted the info below.

This was in a previous post by mmiller19 back in Sept 2008 that I found interesting about the numbering.

Original Mariah employee here. I was heavily involved in the prototype process from 91 to 98 and would like to hopefully clarify this. Initially the "2" designation began in '94 when we began designing boats with the windshield "wing" on the deck (the 212 Shabah was the first) all boats in the future that had the "wing" was designated a "2" ending number (182, 192, 202, 212, & 272 Shabahs and Barchettas). Any boats that were "wingless" were given a zero ending number (180, 190, 200, 240 Talaris). Boats with a "5"ending number were cuddy cabin (275,255,235). Deck boats were given a "4" designation (204, 214, 244) and the few 18 foot outboards that we made were given a "3" designation (183). The closed decks that we made (no cabin just closed deck) were given a "1" designation (191,201). Obviously the beginning of the number was the length of the boat in feet plus or minus a few inches. Let me know if I can help with anything else! CHEERS!

If you browse the gallery, you can see the difference. On the ending in "2" models the rear of the side glass blends into a "wing" on the gunwale. On the "0" models the windshield tapers to a point, and sits flat on the gunwale.

Weird.... Mine is a cuddy, and it's an "8". Maybe they changed it in 99..... Pretty awesome to have an original employee posting on here though! :wink_thumbup:

Re: Talari vs. Shabah

In '99, they stopped using the molded "wing" with the windshields, and all the Talari models became known as Shabahs. A lot of things changed in '99-'00, like you pointed out the use of the 8's. They seem to have designated the cuddy models, (with the exceptions of pre '99 models like the 250, 260, 280 and 300).

Re: Talari vs. Shabah

My 1996 Shabah 180 had a "wing", and so does my 1997 Shabah 210 LE. Looks like the Talari's didn't have a wing and the Shabah's did. Just my observation, I could be wrong.

My Z210 has a wing.

Re: Talari vs. Shabah

Besides the wing.. Is one model better (HIGHER END) then the other, if all was equal ie same mtr, same outdrive etc, would the price be the same on comparable years and size?

Re: Talari vs. Shabah

It is a matter of personal preference.... I like the "wings" .... otherwise, I see no advantage other than cosmetics

Re: Talari vs. Shabah

The Shabah's were supposedly the higher end, but the Talari's could be equipped with all the options of the Shabah's if the owners ordered them that way... And if they're Z-Series, they're equipped to the max anyway. So either way, they're both about equal, after all it's a Mariah, and they're equipped like no other boat in the world. :)
