Default Floor Sink?

Hi, new to the board. We just bought a '94 Z212 Shabah. Need to learn about the boat. First question is what is the "sink like" thing under the small hatch in the floor, just aft of the ski locker hatch? See the attached (I hope) photos.

Looks like a nice little beer chest to me. It drains into the bilge/.

I cranked the traier jack up all of the way , drained all of the water out of the bilge and now can see the hull thrugh the "sink" drain. If it is a cooler, then it must be insulated.....right? I like my beer extra cold.
    Thanks,
    Jim

No the ice doesn't last very long, it usually serves as a good surplus beverage storage and a good place for empties. We still bring a cooler.

What about lining it with a bit of styrofoam?

I forgot to welcome you and congratulate you on a great boat selection. We absolutely love ours.

You could line it, but it would be a hassle to pull out and dry out when done so it didn't get moldy. I already have trouble with that in the carpeting in the ski locker.

Congrats on your boat and welcome to the club. We use mine for a empty can holder. Better than passengers stuffing cans into any empty space, or having them blow around.
    Happy Boating

it is some sort of storage it is cheap plastic with no insulation. the drain goes into a plastic tube that is connected to the drain right before you go into the cabin (if you have one) and then goes into the bilge. i had to blow my drain out last summer with fdcompressed air and it worked until i tore up my floor and tore the stupid thing out cause it really served me no purpose except and a funk collector kinda what you have. althou the lid is nice, my lid is made of teak which will have a us somewhere.
