Cassette Player to CD Player
Hello,
I have a 1999 Mariah Shebah and i want to change my Cassette player (Which i think is stock to the boat) to a CD player. The rear power/speak plug in is different than the standard CD player plug ins. I have went to Wal-mart and they dont have an adapter. Does anyone know how i can change this without cutting all of the wires and re-wiring it to a new adapter. The cassette plug in has only one level of receivers opposed to all the CD players that have the standard two level receivers. Im not even sure if they make these adapters but they have everything else. Thanks in advance for any help. And my second question.........if i do have to cut the wires, do the colors match up? And i have the original cassette player if anyone needs one. Ballard |
Re: Cassette Player to CD Player
Hit up your local car stereo shops. Most have free install if you buy a deck. Depending on your budget, decks can run from $150+ for a good one.

As for the color question; they may not line up but, from my experience, Mariah was really good about labeling wires. So, lining them up yourself may be nearly a non-issue.

Re: Cassette Player to CD Player
As I guy who has done 3 of these in three different Mariah Boats (2 '99s and 1 '00) I can tell you that if you can find an adapter; you are a better man than I. I've looked all over for them. That being said, the wires in all 3 applications that I've done have all matched up perfectly with color. --All you'll need is the (+) and (-) for each of the 4 speakers (these will be purple, green, gray, and white) the constant hot (typically yellow) the power (red) and the ground (black.) If you have a "Z" package with a power antenna or are running an amp, then you have a couple more wires to hook up, but its no biggie.
Having said all that, when you do cut and splice the wires, spend the extra money to get the waterproof "heat and shrink" style connectors -- they are not cheap, but well worth the extra dough as water tends to get in the bottom of you hull, and can splash up to the back of your stereo -- ask me how I know. I will also tell you to possibly look at JBL Marine's CD player line. They have a coupler that plugged right into one of the Mariah's that I did...easy and simple. JBL must buy their parts from the same supplier that Mariah's audio division did? Don't quote me on it, but its worth a look. Good luck. And remember, if you're unsure of anything, definitely ask your local mobile audio shop -- those guys are usually really helpful and nothing spoils a good day on the water like a stereo thats cutting out or doesn't work.
