Question What is it?

Just bought a 2001 222z OB -
just left of the steering wheel on the dash is a raised round pad about 3 inches in diamater with numbered keys all around the outside edge - what is it? This boat has the small engine - what horsepower would it be rated at? I have a 2000 sales brochure that says the "z" boats had a windshield wiper - my boat does not - did they drop the wiper for 2001? It showed 71.5 hours when I got it about 10 days ago and now it is up to 76. It is White/Viper Red with white/grey SS interior. Can you tell I'm new at this boat thing?

Thanks for any help, there was very little printed info with the boat but is very clean, well preserved/cared for and very low hours.

Monte

I believe what you are referring to is a keyless ignition system. Those that have them will probably chime in and let you know all about them. If you were not given a code from the PO, it might have never been used and it seems to me that I read somewhere in the site that there was a default code. You might do a search of "keyless ignition" and see what comes up. As I mentioned before, I'm sure others will chime in and give more detailed info.

Enjoy the boat and post some pics, we all love to see a new boat, I think we're all kind of suckers that way.

It is the keyless ignition. The early design was a rectangle, and the later design was a circle. The quick guide to using it is to enter the code, hit the "Run" button, which will start your blower running, and after a minute or two, hold the start button and your engine will start! To stop the engine, press the stop key, and to lock the system, enter the code again and hit stop.

We have the instruction manual for this keyless ignition system in our Original Mariah Manuals & Supplements section, which is available to contributors. Click the Donate button to find out the info!

For your other questions, the "small engine" is the 5.7L engine, which is reported to push the boat between 46-52 MPH. We'll need to know if it's MPI or Carb'd before we can give the HP rating. The Z model is the top of the line package, and there are many distinguishing factors besides the windshield wiper (which was only available on the cuddy models). Here's the list.

    1. Hand sculpted fiberglass cockpit liners with integral storage
    2. two tone custom hull and deck gelcoats
    3. stainless steel docking lights
    4. stainless steel anchor rope chocks on foredeck
    5. windshield defogger on driver side
    6. mileage counter with reset button in dash
    7. sony CD stereo with storage, and 4 speakers
    8. circuit breaker panel with reset buttons
    9. transom mounted courtesy light on swim platform
    10. instrument panel dimmer switch
    11. positive latch "indy" style stainless steel fuel cap
    12. automatic power radio antenna
    13. automatic power anchor light with SOS function
    14. custom made waterproof clock in dash
    15. external transom mounted engine tilt switch
    16. analog electronic fluxgate compass
    17. two additional courtesy lights
    18. table standard on most z models
    19. keyless entry ignition system
    20. power adjustable driver bucket seat standard on SS models
    21. electric sundeck hatch lifter on SS models
    22. power bolsters on 250, Z250, Z270, Z272, Z275 and Z302
    23. all mariah standard features.

If your boat doesn't have all of these, then it's not a Z model!

Hey, thanks to all who have responded. Mine is definitely a "Z" model as I have everything on the list provided EXCEPT A TABLE? it even still has the silver "Z222" stickers (about 1 1/2 inches high on the side glass! ---and as for the keyless entry - I have no idea what the "code" is?
Is there some way to override or establish a new code? would the info provided in the owners/operators manualfor the keyless system you mentioned tell me how to reset it if I don't have the code? My engine is a MPI not "carb - so what HP would it be rated? You guys are very helpful!!! Thanks a bunch! I'm working on some pics - what is the best way to "attach" them and where to get them on this site?

    thanks again,
    Monte

Hello, I bought a 2001 222Z as well earlier this year. Have same question that u do regarding the round dial with the numbers. Also would like to beg for a copy of the brochure that you have? I didn't get anything and also am in search of an owners manual or something like it. Thanks
