Occupancy question

How many people can I comfortably get on my 97 Shabah 180? My bday is coming up and we wanna go to the lake and take some friends. I got 7 people total including my wife and I. With that many people weight wise will we have any issues skiing or tubing?

Thanks

What are you rated for total? I don't think 7 should be too bad especially with one or two people tubing or skiing. The more the merrier I say.

7 people on an 18' boat is crowded. Hopefully they are all good friends!

Passengers/weight

If you want to be LEGAL, check your coast guard tag in your boat for #people and/OR WEIGHT. The only issue I see may be if most ppl are sitting in the back of your boat when you are trying to pull somebody on ski's, on take off you may have to tell them to sit up front if your boat doesn't want to plane out quickly.

I really don't wanna hassle with all the shuffling around. Also I don't pick my boat up till Friday so I don't have a tag to look at yet :rolling_laugh:

Thanks for the help guys. I'll probably just go with 6 to be safe

Re: Occupancy question

My '95 Talari 180 says 6 people, 900 lbs.

I could be wrong, but it seems like that increased in later models.

I looked and mine says 9 people. Thats a lot of people on an 18' boat.

My 180 says 8 persons or 1055lbs. That's really packing them in on an 18'...

Re: Occupancy question

I'm pretty sure my Diablo 180 is rated for 9 ppl, or slightly over 1000lbs (perhaps because I have the smaller 3.0L motor... perhaps that weighs less?). I will have to look and confirm this. I can't remember the exact weight though. Also, what pitch prop are you running? Do you have smart tabs?

I had 8 people on my boat (4 adults and 4 kids 3yr,4yr, 5yr, and 7yr old) and it struggled to get on plane... I had to move everyone around to get it out of the water. However, I have since added smart tabs.. and had it on the water last week with the same group in the boat. It jumps out of the hole without problem now, even with the load. You might want to run and buy a set, great investment... maybe the best single purchase I have made besides the boat itself. It's also saved me on gas, and i can launch my boat much faster than my friends identical boat. I'm also running a 14x17p prop, but plan on switching it back to a 19p now that I can get on plan faster, and stay on plane at a lower speed.

I also have the 3.0L ... i'm guessing your boat has a larger motor.

Hope you have a great time! and Good Luck!

Nick

Wonder why they raised the capacity? Pretty much the same boat as I have.
