Transom mount transducer... or other style?

Well....

I was going to install my Lowrance LST-3800 this weekend, but i'm still unsure about mounting my transducer. I have a transom mount unit and am leary about adding more holes to my boat (after adding smart tabs). I'm also unsure about the cable routing. I noticed a few mounted online, that had a clamshell/escutcheon cover that went over the hole. It looked as if the hole was filled with some type of marine adhesive.

Does anyone have any personal opinions on these? or pictures of how your transducer is mounted?

Which is more effective? Transom mount or thru-hull?

I want the water temp and depth to be as accurate as possible.. and am concerned that the smart tabs and prop could cause turbulence if I use the transom unit back there.

Again, any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick
