Smart Tabs and Stingray
Does anyone run Smart Tabs and a Stingray fin? What would be the best, could a guy run both?

Re: Smart Tabs and Stingray
No one in their right mind would do something like that. Using a Stingray fin is stupid enough all on its own. ;)

Re: Smart Tabs and Stingray
Drilling 4 holes in your cavitation plate to mount the Stingray can eventually lead to damage to the outdrive. The holes weaken the plate & with the added stress of the hydrofoil it can lead to failure (read....new outdrive). I've personally seen this happen now on 3 occasions. Now i know we have a few members here with them mounted. They do improve the planing ability of your boat but they can also negatively affect the stability of your boat at high speeds. Its your call since its your boat.
The Smart Tabs do everything the Stingray can do and do it much better without the potential to cause problems. Do a site search for Smart Tabs and you will find 9 out of 10 members here love them. Your 202 would likely require the Smart Tabs SX with 80# actuators or possibly the S.S. version. I'm pretty sure there are a couple of other 202 owners here that have them mounted so maybe they will chime in. |
Re: Smart Tabs and Stingray
I have a Stingray on my 180 i been a little lazy to remove not knowing it could cause damage.
The 4 holes, leave them open or fill them? if so fill them with what? |
Re: Smart Tabs and Stingray
The quick fix I have seen is JBweld I would suggest aluminium weld them then sand and repaint won't know they were ever there. Just my opinion

Re: Smart Tabs and Stingray
JB Weld will do the job or aluminum filler that you can pick up at most automotive stores.
