Z275 switch ID help

2 Attachment(s)
So my next step on this project boat is the switches. The original owner left the boat uncovered on the lift for awhile so you can't even make out what the switches are for! They almost all work. :) I want to try as a quick fix just to change the actuators. Then later this winter, I plan on pulling the whole dash and fixing the dash. At that time, I will go ahead and replace all switches. Can anyone with a 275 tell me what the switch is for that I can't figure out??? Also, confirm the movements?

Switches starting on the 1st Bank on the left and then to the 2nd bank on the right:

1st Bank Top Row left to right:

Navigation: Up on for Nav lights, middle is off, down is anchor light
Dimmer: Up and hold makes gauges brighter, then springs to middle to stay where it is, down and hold dims gauges then springs to middle when you let go.
Depth finder: Up is on, down is off
Defogger: up is on, down is off
Exhaust: Up for straight thru exhaust and down for prop exhaust
Dock lights: up is on, down is off

1st Bank Bottom row left to right:

Horn: should be red, up is on, down is off
Blower: up is on, down is off
??????? unknown switch
Bilge Pump: Up is on, down is off
Seat: Up is forward for seat movement, middle is off, down is reverse for seat movement
Engine Hatch: Up is open for engine hatch, middle is off, down is close for engine hatch

2nd Bank Top Row left to right:

Courtesy lights: up is on, down is off
ACC: Accessory, up is on, down is off

2nd Bank Bottom Row left to right:

Trans Light: Up is on, down is off
Engine Light: Up is on, down is off

Re: Z275 switch ID help

I don't have a Z275, but I'll say it's an ACC switch, for accessories. It most likely has nothing hooked to it, so that's why it makes it incredibly hard to find out what it does! There are usually 2 ACC's if there weren't options installed like thru hull exhaust, transom shower, wiper, or defogger.

Your movements are correct. One thing most people don't know, about the NAV lights, if you push the switch up for ON, and all the lights are on, and you switch quickly to DOWN (the anchor light only) without stopping in the middle for a moment, your lights will flash in the SOS pattern. Another one of those things that truly made our boats "Equipped Like No Other Boat in the World". To stop the SOS pattern lights, you need to switch back to the middle and wait for a moment, then switch to whichever lights you need. Just a little heads up...

If you decide to replace all your switches over the winter, try and do a writeup for us, it'd be a great thing to have for the site! :)

Re: Z275 switch ID help

Thanks for the help Chris! I sure hope that the switch is just an ACC switch. Every time I mess with it, I can't find anything that works or changes! So maybe that is what it is. Also, thanks for the heads up on the SOS function! I haven't ran our boat at night yet because our stern light is broke. But I normally do just quickly flip from Nav to anchor lights on our other boats that we have had, and I would have freaked out when they started flashing!

And yes, I do plan on taking lots of pics and posting exactly how to destroy a dash when you take it apart!! :worry_to_laugh:

Are you planning on replacing the switches with like switches or will you change the style?

I am am having a heck of a time trying to find the dimmer switch as mine doe not work properly. If you find exact switches let me know where as I am interested...

Thanks

I am hoping to keep the same style. My switches are Carling Contura IV. I think that alot of Mariah's used Carling Tech. I talked to Carling today and they said that finding the correct switches that are already printed is hard. They said most of their dealers now are buying blanks and screen printing them to what they need. They suggested either going to Great Lakes Skipper or to Custom Marine Services(http://www.cmsquick.com/). Also, check on Ebay. I have seen alot of different switches on there lately.

BTW Brewfixer, here is the link to the PDF at Carling Tech.

http://www.carlingtech.com/pdf/CarlingSW_V4_5.pdf

This shows all the different "V" series switches.See if that will help. If not, you might have to pull the switch and get the numbers off the back.

Thanks for the PDF that helps. I am goino pull the switch again th weekend to grab the numbers. I did speak to Custom Marine Services last week and they didn't think they would be able to help however, they said to give them the numbers off the switch and they will research.
On the other hand, all I need is the actual switch and I can keep my existing contoured cover by looking at the Contura II type sitches. The contura IV are nothing more than the Contura II switches with the curved covers. I will call them tomorrow to see if they have what I need.

Thanks again:wink_thumbup:

Re: Z275 switch ID help

Chris

I agree (from memory) that this is probably an ACC switch. On my Z275 that turns the stereo power on if I remember right. I have 3 ACC switches on mine and will do some checking in the next day or two and send you a comparison to what my layout is. i don't have the exhaust switch and think that is an additional ACC switch at that location on my boat. I think one of the ACC switches also control power for the onboard 12v fridge. I usually run with only the one ACC switch on for the stereo system. My boat came from Club member Z275, don't know what he had for pics on the club site, but he did a lot of work with the stereo and electrical system so not sure if this is the original radio power location.

I'll post some dash pics too. Did you find the wiring diagram on the club site? They are somewhat helpful... I haven't gone through all your posts yet, so maybe you already have talked about the wiring diagrams.

Re: Z275 switch ID help

Thanks Tom! Appreciate the help. Yes, I did find the wiring diagram. I have 2 stereos on the boat. One in the cabin and one at the helm. I have never been able to get the one in the cabin to work(but I also haven't pulled it out to check the wires either!) So maybe that switch would control the cabin stereo. My fridge is controlled by the knob inside it, so it's not switched. And the helm stereo is wired into the house battery, so that isn't switched either. So either it's just a blank ACC switch or the cabin stereo is wired into it. I am pulling the dash apart this winter and fixing the switches, and "recolorizing" my dash. I wish they would have made the back of the dash accessible from the flip up mirror in the cabin. That would make life a whole lot easier!
