leaning issue... overpropped?

I bought a 1999 238 last week with a 5.7L Alpha. Boat is in great shape, but it's slow to plane, and lays to the left when it is on plane. I read online that the whaletail can make it do this. So, I took it off.... without the whaletail, it wont plane without a 200 lb guy getting in the bow and it bounces like crazy! it currently has a 19p 3 blade on it, and runs about 42 at WOT while turning about 4000 RPM. I know it's overpropped, and think that this may be part of my leaning issue. I'm considering buynig a highfive 17p or a revolution 4 15p. Thoughts or inputs? Any other reccomendations? Thanks in advance for the help!

You've suggested some good possibilities. But i would drop to a 17" prop, not a 15". The high 5 is a nice prop but seems to be a little particular on where it works best. A Stiletto is a good all around prop and i would also consider a 4 blade 17 SS prop for your boat.

You might also want to have a close look at how well balanced things are stored within your boat. Its surprising but a difference of 100-200 lbs on each side can cause a significant lean.

As for the 'whale tail', anyone who installs one of those things should be shot & pissed on and not necessarily in that order.

let us know how you make out!

Agreed on the whaletail... Seems to be a "band-aid" to a larger problem... Definitely wanna get rid of it. I just hate to spend 4-500 bucks without doing some testing... cant find anywhere here to borrow or rent a prop.
