Problem with Ignition Switch
We unloaded our Mariah for her maiden voyage (we purchased it in April) and sadly – the ignition key “spun”. It’s like the “gears” are stripped. It worked fine when we test started it before launching a few days earlier. Then at the dock – it turned over with a little effort. Then it stalled (which likely had nothing to do with the ignition switch) – then when we went to turn it over again – the switch just spun. It’s obvious it needs to be replaced/repaired. We can’t get to it. Any thoughts? Any thoughts on where to purchase a new one? It’s a “Y” key.

Re: Problem with Ignition Switch
Hi Imdengler
Sorry to hear about the key. I had an aftermarket one on my boat and bought thru the board member a 2 key and ignition switch to make it like factory. I am not sure if the gentleman has any left. I know he has keys but not sure about the switch. Search for the key and you will see a lot of posts. It may just be the shaft is loose and needs tightening only. I have to tighen mine a couple times a year to keep it from spinning while starting. As far as getting operational, hit a marine store or West Marine and you can replace the whole thing for $15. Takes about 10 minutes tops. You won't have the cool Mariah key but you can fix it low cost. You should be able to lay down and look under the steering wheel to see the switch assembly and the mount thru the dash. Not sure of your model, but i can imagine too many variables to how the switch is mounted or used. Good Luck. |

Did you look under the forum "Mariah Parts & Collectibles for Sale"? That would be your first place and then into this thread. |
Re: Problem with Ignition Switch
Did the lock cylinder spin or the complete switch? If the complete switch, it may just need to have the mount tightened.
