Wood

Hi Everyone. I'm new to the Mariah group and have a question. My wife and I are looking at a 1995 212. I'm not completely familiar with the Mariah boat construction. Is there wood used in the structure of the boat? If so, where? What do I need to look for on a 1995 boat for any structural problems? The boat looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor (in the pictures, have not seen it in person). Just curious about how the wood is used and how often you see problems and what could cause the problem.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Wood

"XL" CCA Pressure treated wood ( a couple of steps up from marine plywood) was used in the stringers, transom and in the deck and all were encapsulated in fibreglass. While wood problems in original Mariahs are very rare they are not unheard of. Floor problems would show up as 'squishy' when you step on it. Stringer problems would likely show up as stress cracking in the hull.

One of our members (Provo) did a floor replacement & wrote up a 'how to'. You can check it out here.

I would think if the upholstery is still good as new, the boat was stored inside and the structure is probably fine.

Most wood issues are from sitting outside in the elements and the upholstery would tip you off if that was the case.

Thanks guys. It is a member,s boat. One owner. Always kept inside. I am going to get an inspection done by one of the area marinas. I am guessing they will check top to bottom.
