Most reputable dealers will have a "connection" of some sort to obtain a trailer. I'd leave it up to them, make them do the work and earn their commission. As far as the seller "taking no less than ____"... yeah... I've heard that before.

I'd do this - make a written offer (with check for down payment or in full, whatever your situation) for $7000 or $7500, with the stipulation of the dealer providing a solid trailer in good condition. This way, the dealer will do the hard work of finding one, and negotiate the selling price, commission, trailer cost, etc between them and the seller. I wouldn't worry myself with all the details of how to get a trailer, or that the seller wants a certain amount of $... I'd just lay it out there and let the seller and dealer fight over how to make it happen.

NADA lists this boat worth $6245, so I'd try not going much over $7000 with a trailer. You also gotta remember, it's winter, and the dealer/seller probably don't have buyers beating down their doors. Reference NADA, the fact that it's winter, it's 16 years old, there's no matching trailer, etc. Don't let them know you "love" it... only that you "like" it!!

You know, you are right. I am comfortable with $8000 if that includes a trailer. Them knowing the history since new is worth a lot to me. Not to say there wont be problems, its an old boat. You are right though, they can get a trailer cheaper than I can.

I hate that I fell in love with this boat.....costs me money :-)

    Hi Guy,

I bought the same boat two years ago. It's a great boat. The pictures of your boat are clean. That is a plus. You also have the 350, mine is only a 5.0. I can get about 50mph out of mine, but I have a High-Five prop for water sports. If I had a 3 blade I'm sure it would do much more.

If you can, wave some cash around at this lady. She probably wants 7500 because there will be a commission charge to the marina. I would pay the $7500 with a trailer included. No trailer and the price seems a little high to me. Keep in mind there will be other Mariahs out there. Boats aren't flying off the shelf right now. People will deal, you just have to be patient. I'm not sure where you live, but you should look north. Most boats for sale in the midwest come with a trailer. You could drive up and pick one up.

Check this out. Here's what I'm thinking. Again, assuming the Mariah checks out, this Maxum doesn't look too bad. Here's what I'm thinking, wave $1000 in cash in front of his face and see if he takes it. If he does, I'll try and sell the boat for, I don't know, say $1000....and keep the trailer!

I'm trying to get this Mariah!

Wow, thats a great price for that combo. The boat doesnt look bad at all, in fact Id unbolt the swip platform and mount it on the Mariah, the trailer looks like it would be the right one.

    Make it so.

Seems like you've got a pretty good idea. With any luck that Maxum just needs the carb cleaned or something simple.
I think the swim platform is integrated (cool feature, especially for that era).

We'll see, still haven't heard back from him. Maxum's are pretty decent boats, right? Maybe if I clean it up and get it running, it'll sell quickly, as long as the engine, outdrive, and floor are decent.

Any guess if it's a Merc, Volvo, or OMC? He says it's a GM 5.0.

I haven't been on a Maxum but there are a few around here and from a distance I'd say they are on par with like Sting Ray and maybe Chaparral. Hard to say for sure on that motor but when I read it Merc is what I automatically assumed. You got me curious so I clicked around on a few for sale and they all had Mercs.

That's what I'm thinking also. I can't believe I haven't heard back from anyone. The maxum guy or even the Mariah marina.

    So, who knows.
