1990 xl1850
I think I had said before that I am a fairly new boat owner. By new, I don't mean a new boat, but a 1990 XL1850. The boat interior was in excellent condition, but the outside was a little rough. By rough, I mean that it really needs the striping replaced. Can anyone help me with that? Also, the front light that I assume is supposed to come up automatically has been patched and glued, but is still broken. Can anyone help me with that also? Also, the Plexiglas on my dash is cracked a few places, anyone have any suggestions.
I would like to get some of this stuff taken care of because my wife has been diagnosed with a very rare condition that is destroying her lungs and her liver. There is no cure, but there is a treatment that may slow the progression of the disease. But, the medication also cost $10,000 dollars a month and I am going to have to foot a part of that. When this all starts, my finances will change extremely. So I would like to get some of these things done now, if I can afford them, because the later I wait, the tougher it will be. Also, have a 1957 Whitehouse boat that I would like to restore, if anyone has any experience with that. Thanks, Gregg |
Re: 1990 xl1850
Hi Gregg,
I am terribly sorry to hear of your wife's condition and I wish you both the best of luck. The stripping on my boat also is in need of repair/replace. Most of this is due to the PO but I am sure we have contributed in some sense. On my boat, it is a white decal found on most 1995 Barchettas. I have thought about trying to find a roll of a white decal strip to place over the top of the stripping because I see it is double layered, but I have not had any luck finding this item. I also thought I may be able to use this same stripping to patch places where the large decals have little gaps here and there. Regards, Kris |
Re: 1990 xl1850
Kris,
Thanks, we just have to give it to God and let him carry us thru. I'm sure that I have added a little to the outside of my boat, but most of it was PO. It was kind of strange, because the interior was in almost perfect condition, just dirty. I have thought about just taking the striping off since the part that looks rough on my boat is tape. I had been in touch with someone thru this site, who supposedly bought all the old stock of stripe kits from the original boat manufacturer, but haven't heard a thing back frm him. I may just end up taking the tape off and buffing it out good and go from there. I have a friend that has a son that goes to a college here in Kansas that supposedly has the only 4 year degree in auto restoration. He said his son would restripe my boat, but probably would not be the same width and color. I know that they are going to do the upholstery for my 1957 Whitehouse boat when I get that far. He has a Crownline that they are reupholstering this winter. Gregg |
Re: 1990 xl1850
Kris,
You might try the email address below, he is the one that is supposed to have the old stock of graphics for the original Mariah boats. I haven't had any luck yet, but you might give it a try. Mike Eftink [[email protected]] Gregg |
