Does anyone have the Digital Popup Dash option ?
I am in the process of purchasing a 1991 2000Z LTD which has the optional pop-up digital dash.
Wondering if anyone has a similar year of boat with the optional pop-up digital cluster ? If so, is it still operating fine ? If not, were you able to fix it ? If it's not fixable, can conventional gauges be hooked up instead of being hooked up to the cluster ? Any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated. |

I've never seen pictures of one, but i'm still pretty new when it comes to the Mariah's. If you get a chance will you post some pictures?

The deal isn't final yet, but if all goes well I will post some pics once I get it.

Re: Does anyone have the Digital Popup Dash option ?
I'm trying to visualize what it looks like. I am assuming it is just as it sounds.. a digital gauge cluster? Perhaps (depending on the size) you could replace it with a dakota digital cluster. I helped install one in my friends restomod ford fairlane. It allowed for numerous options and we were able to retain the factory look. The gauge cluster of the fairlane was perfect, we just removed the speedometer (needle across the dash style) and literally just mounted the rectangle dakota unit where the Speedo once resided. Hope the deal works out for you. Can't wait to see pictures. Nick |

It looks like the photo below. This is from the cover of the 1991 brochure.
The brochure states "The information center includes speedometer, trip odometer, outside air temperature, water temperature, depth finder with alarm, clock with alarm, hour meter, and volt meter. Another unique feature of this center is an engine warning sentinel for oil, volts, fuel, and temperature." There's still a tachometer, battery, oil pressure, compass and fuel gauge mounted around it.... Most of the features on the display are useless and more of a "gadget" thing. To the best of my knowledge, every Mercruiser power plant has the audible warning system, which is just a piezo located under the dash that beeps when trouble arises. I'm sure you could find many GPS models that would fit in that same exact spot that would be much more beneficial to have. Just my .02 :) |

This reminds me of Kitt from knightrider... what do all those buttons do? Looks pretty cool though.

"It's like Deja Vu all over again" :) All joking aside, my dash console is exactly the same as shown and I have to agree that the pop-up information display features are useless....at least in my case because the unit is broken! If I were to remove the display, it would leave a sizable gap in the dash but A GPS or depth finder combo would probably mount nicely with a fashioned template made of plexi-glass or maybe aluminum. But in the end, I guess prefer a more traditional look (i.e. standard dash with classic gauges). Would it be possible to replace the dashboard all together..or am I stuck with the '91 2000Z LTD style? Assuming there are alternate dash styles that would fit, any ideas on cost? Thanks in advance, and I'm glad to be part of the M.O.C.!!! |
