Carnauba Boat Wax

Hi Folks,

We recently purchaased a 1999 Z222 and its been a great summer of boating. We purchased a 3M product to remove the oxidization and restore the shine.

I gather the next step is to apply a good wax at the end of the boat season. I was thinking of using a Carnauba Car Wax. Would this work ok and not effect the gel coat?

Don't use car wax. Use Marine wax, as it's specially formulated for gelcoat.

I highly recommend Meguiars.

I. too, like Meguiars, but I wish that their paste wax was available in Canada. My all time favorite was Tree Wax Paste Wax. Sadly, I can't find it here anymore either.

Since making this post, I have found out that Tree Wax Paste Wax is no longer sold into Canada because it does not contain French/English packaging. This may be the problem with Meguiars as well.

The one I have found that works best for me, but is a little pricey is Collinites Fleetwax #885.

Am i the only one that read the manual and used only 3M products on my Mariah? Don't know if its a carnuba wax. I tried it as my dealer gave me a tin of it when i purchased my boat in '98 and i am still using the same product to this day. It has been sporadically hard to find in my town so i usually end up buying from the US. Goes on easy, buffs nicely and seems to last a long time. Haven't had much experience with too many other boat waxes to compare it with though and i boat in fresh water and my Mariah lives under a boat lift with a canopy or in the garage when i'm not using it. Love the smell of a freshly waxed boat in the morning......Should add that i only use a paste wax 'cause i just can't see skimping and using a liquid product.

mosky,

That is interesting. My manual recommends Meguiars' products.

Well folks thanks for all the great advice. We went with the Trewax which is a Carnauba wax and it is available at the bass pro shop for approx $22.00. The boat looks great and is ready for storage. Thanks for all the input!

We used the Meguiers 3step in a box, Oxidation remover, high gloss polish, wax, 6 inch cheapo dual action turtle wax buffer, and a ton of elbow grease. The Maguiers wax is carnauba. I am so happy with the way it turned out. The wax may a little soft but over all we are happy with the results. Hopefully the oxidization will not return next year. Poor boat was so neglected and unloved. We are getting there.

I actually used star brite marine polish. It worked really good. It was less than 12 bucks a bottle too. My finish wasent that chalky either.
