Engine and Drive number the same ?

I have a question regarding the engine/drive serial numbers.. If the engine and the drive ( Mercruiser 4.3LH + Alpha I gen II ) both are original as installed in the factory do they match in serialnumbers or are they different from eachother ?

thanks for the help

Hi Dutch180SE,

As far as I know, there are three serial numbers associated with Mercruiser systems: 1) the engine, 2) the Transom and 3) the outdrive and each one may have a different number due to various things like model changes, production quantity, etc....

The three serial numbers for our Merc are eight digits long, the first three digits are the same for each which might indicate the time frame they were built, but the remaining five digits
are unique.
