What is the difference between a z250 and z255

I've been wondering this for awhile seems boat makers do like 250 255 235 etc. is this 25 feet and a few extra inches or something? or is it just model ID's

To the best of my understanding 5" is the answer to the title of the thread.

My Shabah 202 is 20' 2" from what I was told. For wharfage fees I gave the marina a length of 20' otherwise they would round up the 2" to the next foot, and charge me apropriately... :worry_to_laugh:

As far as rounding up, I think someone at Mariah had the same fun... Ours is a Talari Z240 so you'd think 24' but the book says the LOA is 23' 4", go figure.

Maybe it's with the swim platform but then that would make her like a Z248 or something like that...

Now my head really hurts,

Without wading through all the brochures, I"m guessing that one of those models is a cuddy and the other is a bowrider. The hull is likely he same.

Just my guess!

Original Mariah employee here. I was heavily involved in the prototype process from 91 to 98 and would like to hopefully clarify this. Initially the "2" designation began in '94 when we began designing boats with the windshield "wing" on the deck (the 212 Shabah was the first) all boats in the future that had the "wing" was designated a "2" ending number (182, 192, 202, 212, & 272 Shabahs and Barchettas). Any boats that were "wingless" were given a zero ending number (180, 190, 200, 240 Talaris). Boats with a "5"ending number were cuddy cabin (275,255,235). Deck boats were given a "4" designation (204, 214, 244) and the few 18 foot outboards that we made were given a "3" designation (183). The closed decks that we made (no cabin just closed deck) were given a "1" designation (191,201). Obviously the beginning of the number was the length of the boat in feet plus or minus a few inches. Let me know if I can help with anything else! CHEERS!

P.S. another little tidbit. In your boat serial # the letter just before the end of the number designates the month the boat was manufactured. a = jan etc.....

I guess there has to be an exception to the rule so I guess it's 215Talari's 96 215 Talari. Ends in "5" so it's a cuddy, but it's a Talari and isn't it "wingless"?

My head hurts again...

Not really an exception. The "5" designates it as a cuddy while the "Talari" name designates it as wingless. The only thing unique about the 215 is that it was the only cuddy we made during that time that did not have a "wing". All cuddys were going to be called "Davanti" but since this one didn't have the wing it was called a "Talari". I know that some of this might not make sense but we did a LOT of things on the fly as you could imagine. To make it simple, Shabah, Barchetta, and Davanti all have the windshield "wing" or "hump" and Talari doesn't. Pretty much that simple. The name AND number of the boat identify what it was not just one or the other. I can understand your confusion though. Hope this clarifies.

P.S. Keep in mind that we weren't a HUGE company with a lot of burocracy. Jimmy might very well have walked out of his office one day and said "This boat doesn't have the hump on the deck we should be calling it a Talari!" only to come back three months later after receiving a dealer call and say "This boat is a cuddy we should be calling it a Davanti!" Again, we did a LOT of things on the fly!!

P.P.S. To your point, yes the boat was incorrectly named in 95.

Thanks mmiller19, that helped immensely! Of course the aspirin probably didn't hurt either! :D

Now I'm confussed.

I just brought a 1996 Z201 Talari which is a bowrider, shouldn't the one disignate it as a close deck.

So what does the 6 in my '98 Z216 signify?

Thanks, Anthony
