Trim Stuck

On our Z308, our trim is stuck in the up position on both outdrives. You can here the trim click when we engage the down buttons.
Any ideas?

I am hoping it's not the sending units.
Thanks

Re: Trim Stuck

Hi clintonbush1, I doubt both sending units would have gone out at the same time but if they're run in series, then one could be the problem, although in my experience going down isn't an issue, it's when you try to go back up. Since you have two I/Os I would assume you have two trim pumps and everything is wired in parallel as well so if that's the case, it sounds like the solenoid is clicking but the motors won't run leading me to suspect the power to the motors has been cut, probably at a common fuse or breaker.

Can you confirm if you do have two trim pumps or just one. We also have the trim pump/solenoid test procedure for the Bravo series in our library if you're up to it.

Re: Trim Stuck

WetWilly,
Thanks for the reply. It does have two trim pumps, and I actually have one of the units working now. After more research last night, the other trim pump is not getting any power. It's so tight in that engine compartment, I am going to have to pull my big battery out to trace the wiring back to the source.
Thanks

Re: Trim Stuck

Hi clintonbush1, great to hear that one pump is now working.

The trim pumps have 2 fuses where the positive wire attaches to the assembly. One is square (110amp) and the positive cable is attached directly to it and there is another fuse holder coming off the same connection point that contains a 20amp glass fuse ( the old automotive type) inside. Click here and look at the "Alpha1 Gen2 Power Trim PDF, page A5-16 to begin the troubleshooting tests and page A5-17 shows the locations of the fuses.

Good luck,
WetWilly
