Default Jittery Fuel Gage

Hi all,

Anyone have problems with their fuel gage being jittery as the fuel sloshes in the tank? I did. The fuel sender unit is a simple resistance device that varies between ~10 ohms (full) to ~250 ohms (empty). I placed a 60,000 uF capacitor between the sender input and ground at the fuel gage and it's now nearly rock solid. It is so much more appealing and the real fuel level so much easier to read.

Sounds like a great idea. Mine can fluctuate about a 1/4 of a tank. How about taking some pics and listing part numbers for the "How To" section?

Between this and your ability to backup and restore the factory multi-function display, you sure are becoming a huge asset to the club Randy! Great tip! This may be the next project for our boat as well. A how to would be great, let me know if you're interested. I'm assuming the capacitor is available at radio shack or the like, correct?

    Cool !

Having a buffer for the fuel gauge would be a worthwhile installation. I know I have mentioned it in some other post that the boats need something similar to what you have done. I know my gauge when on plane jumps all over the place, except when cruising @ 1500rpm down a river.

I definitely want to do this project as well. The only remedy I had seen previously was swapping to an electronic sender, which runs around $300. If you can, post a how-to for all of us! If not, just pass some directions my way and I'll put one together for you!

    Chris,

I'll send you the photo's and information to do a "How To" as soon as I get a chance, probably in a week or two.

We plan to enjoy the nice weather Thur - Sun of this week. It's been an unbelievable fall here in Ohio... and I've taken advantage of every nice day. How 'bout you?

Sounds good, I'll look forward to receiving the info.

I've been trying to enjoy the season as much as I can, I'm taking the boat up to Lake Erie this weekend for probably my last long weekend trip for the season. I'll still run it up to my winterization appt on Oct 22.

I'm enjoying the weather as much as I can, even if it's just sitting on the boat in the marina parking lot cleaning, or troubleshooting my boat's quirks. This has been probably one of the best boating years on the Ohio River in the last 10 years. Water levels have been low due to no rain, so the water's crystal clear, and water temp usually stays around 84 degrees. We've been taking the boat out for sunsets and docking at some of the restaurants before they close up for the season.
