Default carpet removal question...

I have a 1992 2000Z and was wondering what type of floor is under the carpeting in my boat.
Would it be wood or fiberglass?

The reason I ask is because there are some stained areas that look bad and since I don't have a cover for the boat, the carpet is always damp.

Was just wondering if I removed the carpet, would I be ok to leave it that way?

I should probably just leave it as is and just continue to scrub it as I clean the boat through the summer....

Hi depman160, I believe your bow pit area is all fiberglass as it's part of the upper hull, but underneath that and from the dash back, the floor is made up of several large pieces of marine plywood covered in a thin layer of fiberglass for waterproofing. I seem to remember reading a thread about how one of our members removed their carpet, and reglassed the floor with the intent of going carpetless.

If you do pull the carpet, you're going to need to scrape or grind off the residual carpet glue and probably reglass the floor to smooth it out. Another thing, if you go with a glass floor, you'll need something to walk on for traction or everyone's going to be slippin and sliding when it gets wet

    thanks for the tips.
I don't think I will be reglassing anything since I have no clue how to do that!
I think I will just leave it in place and not mess with it.

As for the traction, my father's houseboat is like that....the surface is roughed up and there is basically just paint splatters all over the surface to give it traction....works well and got me thinking about my boat.

Looks like I will leave it alone and save myself any hassles.

    HEY WET WILLY!

What is under the carpet in a 1995 Z202? Is it fiberglass?

Hi Danny, I believe your '95 Z202 has the same floor construction as depman160's '92 2000Z and our '96 Z240, marine grade plywood covered in a thin layer of fiberglass for waterproofing from the motor bay all the way up and under the fiberglass bow pit liner.
