Advise on a Shabah Z242
Currently I have a Mariah 183C.. I am looking at a Mariah Z242.. It has the 350MAG merc and a Bravo 2. Does anyone have experience with this boat? I am moving to a larger body of water. Georgian Bay actually. And I am wondering if this boat makes a good Bay Boat or not. The 183 is great but it is a little small for this body of water. Any advise or observations would be much appreciated. The boat is listed for $15k.. Is this reasonable? Thanks in advance folks...:wink_thumbup:

i moved up from a 19' Monterey to our Z252 Shabah on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. What a world of difference. The lake on the right winds will get 3'-5' chop. The Mariah handles it no problem. My only complaint is that the nose dips rather then staying high so waves do occassionally come over the top.
I have a 7.4L, B3. Great motor. No problem moving the boat. Stong boats! Well built! |

I have notice the same thing with the Mariah hull design. The nose like to dip as the power and speed come up.. Great without real chop but A little worrisome if you have people in the front an a wave comes over.. I am still thinking it is a great boat. I just wanted some others opinions.. Thanks..

Re: Advise on a Shabah Z242
It's not that the nose dips - it's that the bow is designed with tip pointing down just a bit rather then continue straight up. This slight bow dip (Mariah hulls are not the only ones to do this) can increase the likelihood that water (chop and waves) can come over the top rather then being knocked down. In a 3-5' chop, you have to slow down a bit anyway, unless you've got a staunch back and no one in the bow... Adding trim tabs will help tremendously, if it doesn't already have them.
They're on my list of to do's.:wink_thumbup: |
