vinyl just startign to crack

Is there a product out there that will help restore the softness to the vinyl so I can slow the cracking process down.

What about a product that I can put on the crack its self to keep it from spreading.

Don't really want to replace the sundeck just yet?

Sorry to say it, but good luck. I tried a vinyl patch kit that helped slow down one area, but then a whole bunch more started and it was a losing battle. I religiously use Formula 303 protectant, but it was just too late. Not a whole lot you can do once it starts.

I'm going to give this a try once I get my income tax return.. I'll post back as soon as I have it done..

Fibrenew International - The Experts in Leather, Plastic and Vinyl Restoration - USA Franchises

I have an area on my sundeck as well so I really want it to work out.. If I can buy two more years I can pay to replace it all.

There is vinyl tape you can use (similar to duct tape). It's not pretty, but it works for awhile. It doesn't hold up well to weather, water, etc.

So if you're not overly concerned about looks (you have to match it as close as possible) and it's a reasonably small area, it might stop the rip from expanding.

Keep the cushions conditioned. I use3 M PRODUCTS Vinyl Cleaner/Conditioner/Protector. Cleans well, keeps the vinyl soft and water beads up very well on it. I put it on extra heavy on the seams as that's where I'm seeing my first indications of pull and stress.

I had two small tears in my sunpad headrests, and I applied a drop of superglue to each of them. Granted it's stiff and quite a bit more rigid than the rest of the vinyl around it, but it hasn't gotten any larger in the past 4 years since I did that. I wouldn't recommend it for large areas, or for anything larger than say a dime, but as a temporary fix, it's worked for me. :)

Armor All accelerated cracking, or what?

I too am wondering "Why do you say 'DO NOT use Armorall' ?"

Armor All is a silicone based spray.

#1. Add water, and you'll have one of the most slippery surfaces around. There's many horror stories of people who have slipped and injured themselves and their guests on board.

#2. The silicone over time will dry out the vinyl, and yes, cause cracking.

Use a marine protectant, it's specially made to condition the vinyl, protect from UV's, and be much less slippery when it comes in contact with water. Sure, it may cost a bit more, but in the long run, it's worth it.

I knew there had to be a good reason for not using it on marine vinyl. Thanks for the rest of the story.

Any particular marine protectant you would recommend?
