dumb question?

Since finding an original bucket seat/pedestal is such a long shot, I'm wondering if I can modify the replacement pedestal-it's way to high, my knees barely clear the steering wheel at full tilt. My question, though is can I remove the pedestal bolts without the nuts falling into the hull? I'm assuming Mariah used a backing plate and machine screw threads with nuts, rather than just sheet metal type screws to hold the pedestal to the deck. If so, I won't be able to replace the bolts unless the nuts underneath are captive some how. Has anyone removed/replaced a pedestal? Any hints would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Re: dumb question?

You had most of it right :) Mariah did use a 12" x 12" aluminum backing plate that was predrilled/threaded to accept the pedestal mounting bolts which i believe were 1/4" x 2 3/4"L.
I assume that whoever changed the pedestal simply replaced an existing one & used the same bolt holes....

I bought the following fixed height pedestal thru Cascade Depot (Swivl Eze Bell Pedestal Fixed Height) which worked with my Mariah bucket & spider assembly.

This is a 2-3/8" Bell Pedestal Fixed Height. Pedestal tubes are hard anodized aluminum. Base is bead-blasted and clear coated.
