boat insurance

Hi Guys

just a question regarding insurance for Mariah's. i have my boat insured with US Boat insurance which seems to be quite expensive . as far as i can gather there are not many or any other insurance companies that will cover older Mariahs. has any one found a company that does cover older Mariahs . mine cost around $1200 a year do you think this is about right.

best regards

Ed Cossey (sonny boy ) :shakehead:

Hi,

I purchased a 95 Z202 in August. American Family has me at $120 for the year. You must be 24 years old with a suspended license and a habitual offender. It brings back unpleasant memories.

I have State Farm on my 1999 Mariah,Jubillee. Costing me $556.00 all year around. This includes full coverage on trailer.( Full replacement on both. And discount for having taken a boating course. Some Insurances won't pay for a damaged stern drives when you have an accident on the water. Also, covers $500.00 towing on the water if boat brakes down, some insurance compamy offer less .My boat stays in the water 10 months and 2 months when land stored here in Tennessee, where the weather stayes warmer longer. :wink_thumbup: My boat and trailer combined valued at $15000.00

One other spot to check Ed, I have my 240 Talari covered for 14,500 through Hartford (AARP) for $184.00 a year. So far, the only good part of getting older.

Hi Ed,

Just a little humor there. Maybe a little wishful thinking on my end (to be 24). My point is-$1500 seems about 10 times higher than it should be. Typically, snow machines, boats, 4-Wheelers, etc. don't cost much to insure unless you have a terrible record or you are young.

Another tip that might help is insuring everything through the same company. I have life, house, car, and now boat with Am-Fam. It helps lower your rate on everything.

My two-cents

Re: boat insurance

Our 97 was covered by State Farm for $550/year. I then moved to US Boat and that cost $280. Regardless of whom you go with - ask them how they handle depreciation! I found out with US Boat they have a very bizarre and unfair way of looking at how they depreciate the value and therefore the value of the repairs.

My 97 was depreciated 65% even though I have only 350 hours on the motor. Nothing is really stated about this so - ask how they cover repairs! State Farm was based on the age of the motor based on a 1,000 life expectancy (still low for a maintained fresh water engine...).

I think the main issue is your location. ALL insurance is terribly expensive in Florida!! Has something to do with extremely high winds and lots of rain/water!!!

I have State Farm for everything, and I think mine is around $230 a year for the boat.

I also have a $500,000 libility for injury.Cost of Insurance is judged on the year of boat and replacement value.Other things they factor in.
