Windsheild for 240 PC Talari Special Edition

I guess I shouldn't have ventured out in that Noreaster last weekend, but I did, and got a little slap happy on the surf, until a section of the port windshield panel shattered. The long, triangular shaped section that slopes down along the side of the boat needs replacement. Does anyone know from who or from where I can get windsheild replacement parts?

If I found an old boat that would be great, but so far the best I can do is have a glass company make a piece of laminated glass, similiar to a car windsheild, using the mirror image of the piece on the starboard side.

Has anyone else dealt with this, and have an easier solution? If so, let me know please!

Here's a thread with the contact info for the original manufacturer (Taylor Made) and other details you will need: http://www.mariahownersclub.com/foru...e-windows.html

Mickey,

Thanks for the thread. It sounds somewhat encouraging, and I have all winter to do it, but I will keep the list posted.

Re: Windsheild for 240 PC Talari Special Edition

Well I finally resolved my windshield repair, and thought I would update the forum in the event any other members have the same problem. My boat is the 1998 246 PC Talari, and the windshield section running behind the vented window, on the port side, had shattered. Fortunately the shattered section was not the highly curved piece in front.

The windshield was made by Taylor Made, but there are several different manufacturing locations, so wherever you call first make sure they direct you to the Taylor factory which made your glass. Mine was made in New York (518-773-0636) state.

I went back and forth for several weeks, and in the end determined from pictures that my piece was out of stock, and although they had the engineering plans for the glass, to actually make the piece of glass I was told would require retooling a machine just for that piece, and would likely cost thousands of dollars. I got slightly different answers from different customer service agents, ranging from "I think I have identified your glass, and we may have it in stock", to "we haven't had that glass in years and we are not likely to produce it again.

It's possible that they did have a piece of my glass lying around, but it didn't seem like they really knew, or even wanted to try hard to look for it. I eventually removed the broken section of the windshield myself, brought it to a good glass shop in town, and they reproduced the same color and material as the original, for $164.00. If you can remove the glass frame, that is going to be your best bet.

Another important note, is that the number which taylor asks you for, printed on a sticker on the inside of the trim, only identifies the the curved front of the windshield. There is no part number for the tail piece which extends toward the stern, and that must be identified with pictures and measurements.

I hope this helps someone.. and Good Luck!

Hi sweetdreams, thank you for the informative update about the windshield glass. This has got to be one of the most difficult parts to replace and your experience and solution will definitely help our members! Great work :wink_thumbup:
