Z216 - RPM and GAS Gauges out of order

Since 2 Days my RPM clock and Gas gauge does not work anymore. I checked all the cables but did not find anything wrong. Behind the dashboard there are 8 car fuses and all are ok. Are there some other fuses I did not find or does anybody have a clue?

Many thanks for your answers and

a warm hello from the Lake of Zurich

Re: Z216 - RPM and GAS Gauges out of order

Hi patwid,

Looking at a wiring diagram from '96, and assuming your '97 would be simalar, the only common wire for the RPM, Fuel and the Clock is the ground wire. The clock gets its power from another circuit, but all the wires go to the same connector so that's where I would start. Check all connections for any corrosion, corrosion plays a big part in all of our electrical woes. Just remember to document and/or label any wires before removing or disconnecting then, then use a small wire brush or small drill with a wire brush attachment (I use a Dremel) and clean the wires, contacts and/or terminal posts.

If you're still having issues, I would check the following:

1) Are the grounds to each gauge good? If not, trace the ground back or rewire the ground.

2) Check if you have power (12V) when measured at the positive terminal on each gauge? If not, trace the power wire to it's source/fuse/circuit breaker. The clock should be on a different circuit and fuse and it should be on at all times where the RPM and fuel gauge come on only when the ignition is turned on.

Good luck and let us know what you find!

WetWilly

Thank you very much WetWilly for your clues. I will check next time I see my Mariah. Unfortunately in the boat manual the chapter dashboard is empty and so it's not so easy to find the fault.
I will keep you informed (but first I go to Bali / Indonesia on holidays)
