    Hi Douglas,

    Picture's worth a thousand...

Anyway, it sounds like "that's" your electric fuel pump. Is your motor fuel injected or carbed?

It sure looks like it. This is from mercruiserparts.com it's on the diagram for the 5.0L engine, and it's listed as a "fuel pump assembly"

What's odd though, the SAE J1171 as listed on the sticker is a part number for an alternator.

    Hi Guys,

SAE 1171 is a NMMA Certification for the part and not the part number. I believe it referrers to "External Ignition Protection of Marine Electrical Devices" so all of our electrical parts should be SAE 1171 certified and they maybe labeled as so.

Douglas, I remember reading that some of the Mercruiser motors use a "booster" pump, so if you don't have a mechanical pump, it's your primary, but if there is a mechanical pump, it's your "booster".
