Replacing Gimbal Ring

I have a 222 shabah 1999 with 5.7 efi and alph one gen II outdrive. I have to replace gimbal ring and was wondering if anyone has any pointers or things to watch out for. the only place i have found is ebasicpower.com that carries them for a reasonable price. any help would be great thanks rob

Re: Replacing Gimbal Ring

Hi rob, www.wholesalemarine.com has the same part# for $454 verses $499 at ebasicpower.com.

If you don't already have a service manual, then I strongly suggest getting one. Our contributing members have access to this information, Click here if you would like to become one.

I was looking at the Gimbal ring replacement on Merstuff.com and the only thing that looks out of the norm is how to access the steering lever assembly from outside of the gimbal housing. It appears that your going to have to drill a couple of access holes in the gimbal housing to get to the nuts and bolts unless you want to remove the entire gimbal housing from the transom. Click here for the Merstuff How-to.

Good luck,
WetWilly
